Open Question: Do piercings and tattoos greatly affect you?

I've been thinking of getting some more piercings, maybe around the age of 16, (I have two sets on my earlobes, that's it) like a nose piercing or maybe a cartilage. Also, I've been thinking of getting some tattoos (also when I'm older, like 18 or something). I was thinking of getting a nickname or a peace sign on my shoulder or something, nothing extravagant or explicit. But I'm worried about how they would affect you, like if you're applying for universities (like Harvard or Yale?), would piercings/tattoos affect your chances of getting in, even if your academic level is great and all that?
