Open Question: US Universities for UK students?

Hey Guys, I'm looking to go over and study in the US as an international freshman however as I don't live there I don't know much about the Universities there. Now I'm not looking to go to the likes of Harvard or Stanford. Just an affordable yet promising public university which would accept grades of B's perhaps.
