Open Question: Where did Americans get the idea that they spend more on education & healthcare than other countries?

Most of the money America spends on education is concentrated in post-secondary (College & University) education. Primary & secondary education in America is, to put it bluntly, crap compared to most other developed countries, and these 2 can be seen as more important than the last because they lay the foundation for college education. There is a huge gap in school funding between various states & districts--some a small few receive a great education, while the majority of American population receive a mediocre and , in some cases for the very poor, almost non-existent one. What good does it do America to claim it has the best universities in the world (because they receive more money i.e Harvard, etc) if most of the American population has niether the skills, knowledge or money to get into them ____________________________________ The same applies to America's healthcare system, phenomenal healthcare for a few, little to no healthcare for the many. America is where you want to go to get cured of a disease that is very hard to diagnose, but for preventative care & regular check ups---any developed country except the U.S. is better.
